Cori E. Vowell

Cori has been in the company of horses since birth.  Her first ride was at the tender age of 10 months on her Aunt Brenda's champion Hanovarian, Goldstaub.  An avid equestrian, Cori developed her balance and leg strength on her spring horse, Walter, when not at the barn - everything around Cori was horse related.  As a young girl, Cori sought out every class and program available to children and found that she had soon exhausted the possibilities.  It is in the hope of providing every child the opportunity to ride as well as to develop the fundamental skills required to excel in the equestrian world that has prompted Cori to launch her own riding program.

Cori became a horse owner at the age of ten.  Spending summers in Montana, Cori was able to develop as a hunter/jumper rider under the guidance of Wendy Olson of Willow Creek Farms in Lakeside, Montana.  Through the age of 18, Cori trained summers in Montana and spent the school year working with various Bay Area trainers in order to perfect her equitation and skill set.  After out growing two horses, Cori was lucky enough to find Skipparr who is with her today and the pivotal member of her training team.  With Skipparr, Cori showed on the A Circuit  and International level in Hunters.  In the early years of Skipparr's retirement from the circuit, he became a lead horse for the Backcountry Horsemen on Montana, of which Cori's grandfather was President.  During this time, Cori also trained in Montana with Max Salisbury on her western horse, Amigos.

During high school and college, Cori worked with BOK Ranch teaching handicapped people to ride and enjoy horses.  Summers were spent teaching Summer Camp at Calero Ranch Stables.  Calero offered Cori the opportunity to teach clients privately while attending college.  Cori enjoys watching people develop a love and appreciation for horses at all levels from pleasure to the competition level.  With nearly ten years of experience working with children, Cori has found that confidence and security are key for all riders to excel.  Upon this realization, Cori added Winky, a small and "unintimidating" training partner for the Ikkos team.

The beauty of working with horses is that one can never stop learning.  Cori continues to train and develop a skill set in Dressage.  Veritas joined the Ikkos team when only 4 months old.  Just turned two, Cori is proud to say she has provided him with fundamental ground training and looking forward to continued training.  Dante joined our barn six months ago.  He is green but learning dressage and hopes to compete within the year.

Whether your goal is to learn about horses and enjoy their company, learn the proper skills for riding, train your own horse or compete, Cori can tailor a program to meet your needs.
